Meet your instructor: Betsy Simmons Fraser
Once a dancer, always a dancer.
Betsy’s love for dance began at age ten and only intensified throughout high school until she caught the bug to become a professional dancer. Her first job was dancing and singing in a musical, magic show at Magic Harbor in Myrtle Beach, SC.
She studied ballet and modern at UNC-Greensboro while dancing in the live shows at Carowinds during the summer months. Her work at Carowinds led Betsy to perform for the USO, touring Germany and Iceland with an eight person troupe called ‘The Kings Eight’.
Soon Betsy was on her way to New York City where she took class with studios such as Broadway Dance Center, Steps and Dance Space. She auditioned for several shows including A Chorus Line but decided to leave the world of professional dance for a different creative career as a graphic designer.
She continued to take class while studying design in NYC. When she moved back to Winston-Salem in 2004, she began teaching dance at the studio where she began her training.
Betsy is happiest when she is dancing and loves to teach the kind of class that she herself enjoys taking. She’s obsessed with all things musical theater, especially any choreography by Bob Fosse.
Dance is a celebration of life and Betsy hopes you will join her in the celebration.
