About the event

Gold N Gems announcement.

It is finally here. A Belly Dance class for women 50 yrs and older.

Belly Dance is a general name for dance forms that go back several thousand years. Few dance forms feel so natural for the body and allow adaptations for various fitness levels, age, and previous experience. The movements can be meditative or athletic. The vocabulary in these dance forms is extensive, so one can always dance even if there are physical challenges. Each person dances individually and expresses herself with movements. No partner is needed.

Attire: Comfortable stretchy clothes such as yoga or leggings, form fitting top or T-shirt (no need to show belly). Barefoot, socks or ballet slippers. Scarf to tie around hips (no need for coins or beads). A 3 yd veil or 3 yd of a light flowy fabric. (I will have several for loaning at the first class)

Cost: $59 for SIX - 50 minute class, plus 5 minutes Q&A or $15 drop in if at least 6 persons are registered for the full session.

Minimum number of participants: 6 Maximum: 15

About the instructor: Samra (Iara Kendrick) began studying Middle Eastern Dances at a mature age in 1992. Since then, she studied with masters from all corners of the USA and abroad. Later, she traveled to Egypt and Turkey twice to study with masters there and immerse in the culture. She taught regularly in southwest Virginia, Winston Salem, and has taught workshops at many cities in the USA. Belly Dance is one of her true passions and it has helped her go through many dark moments in her life. She even danced while healing from a broken arm for nearly one year!

Later, she was invited to teach and perform at various Asian countries, Norway, and Brazil.

You can see samples of Samra’s dance below. They are all improvisations in various styles.
